Home Base Iowa’s mission is to make Iowa the state of choice for military men and women as they transition to civilian careers. Home Base Iowa will provide veterans with resources that can open doors to job opportunities, welcoming communities, and on-going engagement with the military community.

 

Union County Home Base Iowa Veterans Support Fund Program – The Union County Home Base Iowa (UCHBI) Taskforce has created the Veterans Support Fund to assist veterans who have secured employment in Union County as of July 1st 2014. The taskforce has gained support from both public and private sectors for the purpose of supporting veterans as they seek employment after active duty. The fund will be used to offset expenses for returning and relocating veterans.

The Union County Home Base Iowa Taskforce has created the following guidelines to indicate qualifications for the Veterans Support Fund:

  • The veteran must fill a job from a Union County Home Base Iowa Business and must establish primary residence in Union County.
  • If a veteran had no job prior to deployment and returns to Union County they must fill a job from a Union County Home Base Iowa Business and must establish primary residence in Union County.
  • Qualifying jobs must meet middle or higher skill job level.

Union County Home Base Iowa Businesses will take the lead in providing information to the UCHBI Taskforce on potential applicants. Veterans will have up to one year after hire to apply to the Veterans Support Fund.

The following items are eligible uses of the fund.

  • Moving expenses
  • Purchase of appliances
  • One year residential property tax refund
  • One year membership to Southern Prairie YMCA
  • Utility Deposits
  • Other

Maximum Amount

Each veteran is eligible for a maximum of $2,000.00 to assist with relocation purposes.

Additional Services

In addition to the incentives above the following services are also available to veterans.

Introduction to participating realtors for housing

Provide a list of apartments for transitional housing

Guided community tours to include:

  • K-12 Schools
  • Southwestern Community College
  • I Think I Can Child Care Center
  • Greater Regional Medical Center

Southern Iowa Council of Governments HTF Military Home Assistance Program

The SICOG HTF Military Home Assistance Program provides eligible service members and veterans with a $5,000 grant that may be used toward entry cost assistance i.e., closing cost assistance on a qualifying home purchase. Eligible service member may access the SICOG HTF Military Home Assistance Program to be used with a qualifying mortgage or cash purchase transaction.

Union County Veteran Affiars Commission Benefits:

Eligible veterans with financial hardships may apply for temporary emergency assistance. We also provide assistance in applying for other benefits and obtaining information for the veteran such as:

  • VA Medical Care
  • Iowa Veterans Home
  • Grave Markers
  • Compensation and pension
  • Military Records
  • Home Loan Benefits

We maintain Grave Registrations for veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces whose mortal remains rest in Union County, IA.
